2010 Mac Pro 5.1- new monitor

Hi

i have a 2010 Mac Pro 5.1 with the stock Radeon graphics card and my ok cinema HD display has died.

i Would like to get a 34" curved monitor - either the SAMSUNG S34E790C or the LG34u 97

could anyone tell me if those monitors would work with my Macpro, would I need to upgrade the graphics card and if so what card you recommend?

Many thanks

I have a similar setup with a mac pro 5.1 and an apple shipped HD5770.

The LG-UM95-P runs fine via mini-DP to DP at 60Hz (see below). Audio from to this display cannot be changed by the apple OS-sierra.

Using a miniDP to HDMI in this configuration maxes at 30Hz. Also, audio from to this display cannot be changed by the apple OS-sierra.

Maybe this cold be due to the adapter that I tried for HDMI:

Either monitor will work. The only note here is that the Mac Pro cannot produce the max resolution these monitors can support. But they should support resolutions below their maximum just fine.

For upgrades, here's osme good reading:

BareFeats have just done a test which includes using a classic Mac Pro and an Nvidia GTX 980Ti video card with a 34" ultra wide display. Obviously this means it worked.

See http://barefeats.com/razer_core_uw.html

It maybe the original video card is incapable of driving such a monitor but clearly the GTX 980Ti can and I would think the standard GTX 980 as well. Possibly the 970 and the 960 may do so as well.
